Full Glastonbury Lineup Leaks Early
Glastonbury organisers planned to announce the full line-up at midnight on Tuesday. They did not immediately return calls today.
The leak is the latest in a long line of misfortunes to befall this year’s event. Organisers have faced a barrage of criticism after choosing Jay-Z as the festival’s headliner.
High-profile musicians, including Oasis member Noel Gallagher, have asked why the festival has chosen a hip-hop act instead of continuing its rock tradition.
“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go,” Gallagher complained.
“I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go ‘Kylie Minogue?’ I don’t know about it. But I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.”
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has defended the choice.
“Jay-Z is far from the first hip-hop artist to perform at Glastonbury, as one might assume from some strangely hysterical press reports.”
While tickets have sold out within hours in previous years, this year sales were down.
After 37,500 tickets were left unpurchased, organisers were forced to reopen registration.
